CONGRATULATIONS...Brennan Fortune!

Write-up taken from SJFC Athletic WebSite:

Brennan Fortune of the St. John Fisher College football team has been selected to play in the 11th annual Aztec Bowl on December 8th in Chihuahua, Mexico.

Each year, the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) selects a team of NCAA Division III athletes to compete against a team of Mexico’s top collegiate players. The game has been played 37 times since 1947, with the last 10 games featuring the United States-Mexico matchup. The United States is 9-1 in the all-time series, and won last year’s meeting 28-7 in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Fortune is a three-year starter who has been instrumental in the Cardinals’ offensive success. The 6-foot-3, 310-pound offensive tackle has paved the way for a potent Fisher rushing attack that has gained 2,278 yards and scored 30 touchdowns this season, and has also been dominant in pass-protection, allowing Fisher quarterbacks to pass for 2,398 yards and 27 touchdowns. The senior captain has also drawn attention from scouts at the next level due to his strength, technique and solid footwork.

Fortune is the third player from Fisher to be selected to play in the Aztec Bowl. Noah Fehrenbach and Matt Keem were the first two selections.

Over his four-year career, Fortune and the Cardinals have amassed a career record of 41-8, including a 6-2 record in the NCAA Championship Playoffs, making this year’s senior class the winningest class in program history. After a 24-7 victory over Hobart in the opening round, and a 38-7 win over Curry College in the following round, the Cardinals (11-1) have advanced to the Regional Final for the second consecutive season, and will take on defending National Champion Mount Union (12-0) at noon on Saturday in Alliance, Ohio.

Sermon on the Mount

by: The Hogans

The "Big Dance" - Part 3 of 5

The folks in Alliance~seem really quite sure,

That their team on Saturday~ will once again endure...

For this is Mount Union~ the cream of the crop,

A team that only few~ have been able to stop...

Their Stagg Bowl credentials~ does really tell it all,

They're 9 - 1 since '93 ~they just don't seem to fall...

They were picked on the top~ and they're still number one,

So to them playing Fisher ~ may just be for fun...

But I've got this feeling ~ way down in my gut,

That Fisher is ready~ and those same folks say "whut"...

For this little tiny school ~ in West Central New York,

May just surprise"the Mount"~ when their road takes a fork...

We'll put up some points ~ and that's no joke,

If our "D" holds tough ~ you may see them choke...

They're so use to winning ~ that maybe they'll forget,

What that feels to a team ~who hasn't won it all, quite yet...

So all you folks get ready ~ for this is our chance,

To take out "the Mount" ~ in the '07 Big Dance...

And Coach Vos is right ~ with his goal every year,

Playing football December ~ is something to cheer...

So "Thanks all you Cardinals" ~ for this fantastic year,

You just can't imagine ~ our appreciation with sincere...

For your journey this weekend~ is one we'll remember,

So bring this one home ~ we'll play more in December...

GO Cardinals

Room Reservations/Hotels

I just got off the phone with Margie at the Comnfort Inn who has CONFIRMED that the hotel is sold out and the team will be using that hotel. She did tell me that we will have the Boardroom on the first floor as a Hospitality Suite for $40.00- but all of our "goods" must be out at the end of the night as she is using it early Saturday.

I would suggest for those who do not have rooms, and plan on staying on Friday evening, to contact the Holiday Inn Express and/or Super 8 Motel in Alliance as soon as possible.

AND...as always...ALL of you are invited to the Hospitality Suite at the Comfort Inn...we should be there around 8:00pm.
Not sure on tickets yet...sent an email to Coach Vos this morning...will keep all of you in the loop! You can call Mount Union directly to reserve your ticket, but we were able to get tickets last year walking up to the window.

A Thanksgiving Wish for Curry College

Poem by: Mr. Hogan (A Poetic Artist at His Best)

The Curry College Colonels - will travel from Milton Mass,

About, 400 miles or so - they'll need a lot of gas...

For their destination is Rochester - and much to their dismay,

They'll head back home on Saturday - and that's where they will stay...

For the Saint John Fisher Cardinals - are not quite finished yet,

This is only Round 2 you know - and there's certainly more to get...

The Empire 8 League Champions - will represent their league,

Their school, their city, their families - with that pride and intensity...

We already know the Curry D-Line is really quite small - but quick,

They had my B'Ville boy Boltus - surrounded at the hip...

So knowing their strength up front - becomes that important piece,

That means the Fisher O-Line will be tested - which can put us all at ease...

That Offensive Line can go up against - the mightiest of all,

For they'll continue to wear them down - whenever we have the ball...

A little trap here, or a quick-opener there - will have them on their knees,

Then Kramer will go airborne - in that gentle autumn breeze...

Our D-Line ain't too shabby either - our defense is on a roll,

You gotta love our Linebackers - and that secondary controls...

So Coach Faggiano, keep 'em playing - like that fine old wine,

Just please don't move Becton to Safety - Leave him on the Line...

So all you folks get psyched - dress warm and be ready to cheer,

Because the Cardinals will be ready - they'll show us they have no fear...

And when the game is over, and maybe just by chance,

We rejoice our beloved football team... "
This is the Big Dance"...
Happy Thanksgiving from your Cardinal blogger to the Cardinal Fisher family....a family second to none!

Sarah and I heard some very nice comments about ALL of YOUR efforts in making today very special for our coaches, players, guests and families. Thank you so much....Once again...let's do it again next week...Your creativity with some of those hot dishes...was unreal....As new information comes out...we will keep you posted.

NCAA Tailgate Location

Thanks to the efforts of Karen, Coach Vos and Bob Ward we will be able to use our old end of the SLC in the gym area. Coach will let down the curtain so we will have more space. This is the end we used to use a few years ago. We will cook outside the door and we will eat indoors.

We have not heard of the number of recruits that may be present...BUT...seeing the "hugeness" of the game....I would make, or bring, just a little bit more thn what we ususally bring to the tailgate event. It will be COLD...so the more hot meals we have the better for the players and the coaches.

Sarah will have the final list out this evening. You'll see that we are REALLY short on some of the items so we are once again are asking each of you to do the "cardinal" extra. You have ALL been so GREAT this year and we know that the players and the coaches enjoy what you do.

We want to thank Bob for his extra efforts with this request...he's been GREAT!

Hogan's Poetic Justice!!!!!

The "Big Dance"
On the Northern tip of Seneca lake, Geneva stands so proud...
The home to the Hobart Statesmen, where their stadium is loud...
It's because for the Liberty League title, they are the co-champs...
And this is the 4th consecutive trip they'll make, to the "Big Dance"...
So the Hobart Statesmen on Saturday, will travel to the west...
To Crowney Stadium in Rochester, Saint John Fisher will be their quest...
The Fisher Cardinals will be ready, so please don't you be late...
For the Saint John Fisher Cardinals, are co-champs of the Empire 8...
It's our third E8 championship, within the last four years...
So it shows the Football Nation, we send the home in tears...
A message to the Statesmen, perhaps to their chagrin...
Saint John Fisher wins on Saturday, and you go home again...
Nationally D3 ranked us Number 6, and you know they don't jive...
With that impressive win over Alfred, they moved us to Number 5...
So the Saint John Fisher Cardinals, will once again advance...
They'll take us along as they continue to play... This is the "Big Dance"...
